So I bought a Ping G30 driver off a reputable ebay seller, with 100% positive feedback, in the PGA trade in network and zero mentions of fake clubs in the thousands of purchases in the last 12 months. However, I tested the G30 in my fitting, and when I hit it, it made a 'cracking' noise instead of a metallic ping noise. I just got my driver from ebay today and when I went to the range to hit it, it didn't really feel the same at all. It made a metallic pinging noise instead of more of a wooden crack like in my fitting. Is it possible it's a fake? The only differences I can think of is that the fitting was indoors using real balls (not range balls) and the shaft was much higher end. I still have 10 days to return the driver so I'm wondering what to do here.
From my experience with various PING drivers, none of them make a 'ping' noise to me. They all make a louder deeper slap/crack noise. The only product sold that makes the stereotypical 'ping' sound would be their PING putter sold many years back. From the pictures this looks legit. Ping Serial # Authentication Hi I wonder is there anyone on the board that can check Ping serial numbers online. I am pretty sure the serial number on the G15. If you are buying PING clubs over the internet. Tour issue clubs have a serial number that starts with a T. Www.taylormadegolf.com 5545 Fermi Court Carlsbad, CA 92008 1-877-860-8624. Mizuno iron sets will have the serial number on the hosel of every iron. Mizuno clubs normally have the serial number lasered on, but it will be in small writing.
My Anser, G25, i25 and G30 all make generally the same loud crack noise when struck. If you do not like the sound, you could put a couple cotton balls inside the head, just watch the change in swing weight. Edit** Also, comparing this to the counterfeit club pictures the below, the main difference I notice are: • Turbulators are set back about 1/4 off the face - Yours are much closer like the authentic. • 'LOFT' Text is more italics leaning instead of squared off. Yours more leaning like the authentic. • The weight on the back is more rounded off edges and more anodized/gritty looking instead of the shiny/sharp edged counterfeit one. Yours rounded and textured like the authentic.
