Charles Gerard Conn was the patriarch of musical instrument manufacturing in Elkhart, Indiana and a pioneer in the music industry. In 1873, C.G. Conn developed a brass mouthpiece with a rubber rim to allow him to play the coronet with an injured lip. By 1876, he had converted an old sewing machine into a lathe and began building instruments. Conn was a true innovator blazing a trail of firsts on American soil- 1st American-made cornet, saxophone, sousaphone & BBb Tuba, to name just a few.
Aug 24, 2008 - Hi, I was wondering how to identify which model french horn I have. Where is the serial number located and is the model number marked. A Conn 8D with a six digit serial number and no letter prefix is not necessarily an Elkhart 8D. When Conn moved to Abilene, Texas they did make horns with six digit serial numbers that drastically overlap the Elkhart numbers.
Conn forever shaped the music industry by founding the 1st National School of Music, 1st National band contest, the industry’s 1st R&D department as well many other musical instrument industry 1sts. Utilita samsung home 941.
